Tet holiday 2024 is coming soon! As you know, Tet is the biggest and most important holiday in Vietnam. It is a time for family, food, fun and renewal.
Many people feel stressed before Tet. There are so many things to do! Cleaning, shopping, cooking and visiting. Wow, so much work!
But don't worry. I made this easy guide for you. Here are 7 awesome things to do before Tet 2024. Let's get ready to have the best Tet ever!
1. Big Cleaning Time
Cleaning is job number one! Tet is about sweeping away the old and welcoming the new.
So put on your work clothes. It's time to scrub down the whole house:
First, declutter. Throw away or give away things you don't need. Organize closets and clear surfaces.
Next, dust everything. Shelves, windows, fans and furniture.
Then sweep and mop all the floors. Get those tiles shining!
Don't forget the bathroom and kitchen. Scrub sinks, toilet and appliances.
Check walls and ceilings for cobwebs. Remove all the spider webs!
Take out trash and tidy up the yard. Prune bushes and trees.
Wow, look at how nice your clean house looks! Now it is ready for Tet blessings and luck.
2. Shop for Decorations
A beautiful home brings good fortune for the new year. Next on your checklist? Go shopping for decorations!
Here are some of my favorite Tet decor ideas:
Get a kumquat tree. This lucky plant symbolizes prosperity.
Buy fresh flowers. Yellow blossoms like chrysanthemums bring wisdom.
Pick up new red and gold decor. These are Tet's lucky colors.
Get creative lanterns. Hang them up for bright blessings.
Find cute plush toys. Display tigers, dragons and more.
Shop for nostalgic toys. Spinning tops, jacks and kites are fun.
Don't forget festive flags and banners.
Decorate your space with joy and creativity. Your home will shine with Tet spirit!
3. Update Your Wardrobe
Tet is picture time! You'll want to look your best in all those family photos.
Check your closet. Which clothes need replacing? Shop for stylish new Tet outfits.
Some outfit ideas:
Get an ao dai. This traditional gown looks gorgeous.
Pick a nice shirt or blouse. Solids look more formal.
Buy new jeans or slacks. Dark washes are dressier.
Get shoes and sandals. Look polished from head to toe!
Don't forget accessories. Jewelry, scarves, belts and more.
Update undergarments. Treat yourself to nice lingerie.
Add a suit or dress. For fancy Tet events and parties.
A new Tet wardrobe will make you look and feel amazing. Be fashionable and photo-ready!
4. Plan Meals and Shop
My favorite part of Tet? All the yummy food!
Start meal planning early. Make lists of what to buy, cook and eat. Ask family about favorites.
Here are some must-have Tet treats:
Banh chung - square sticky rice cakes.
Banh tet - cylindrical sticky rice cakes.
Mut - candied fruits and seeds.
Pork dishes like thit kho and dua hanh.
Lucky New Year's noodles called mien or bun.
Fresh fruits like mangoes and coconut.
Tea, juice and soda for toasting.
Vietnamese candies and cookies.
Then go food shopping! Markets and grocery stores get very busy before Tet. Beat the crowds and stock up early.
5. Visit and Give Gifts
Tet is for family and friendship. Make time to visit loved ones.
See grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. Catch up together.
Also see friends and colleagues. Strengthen your bonds.
When you visit, bring small gifts:
- Sweets like chocolates or cookies.
- Fruit like oranges, mangoes or dried plums.
- Tet decorations and flowers.
- Gift cards or money in red envelopes.
- Vietnamese coffee or tea.
Visits and gifts show your care. They remind loved ones that you think of them.
6. Prepare Travel
Will you celebrate Tet in your hometown? Or head to vacation spots?
If traveling for Tet, prepare early. Roads, buses, trains and planes fill up fast.
Travel tips:
Book transportation and hotels now. Prices rise closer to Tet.
Get maps and research your destination.
Check the weather. Pack appropriate clothes.
Plan activities for the trip. Sightseeing, beaches, hiking and more.
Pack medications, phone chargers, water bottles.
Secure your home. Lock doors and windows.
Ask a friend to pick up mail and water plants.
Pack lightly but wisely. You may receive Tet gifts!
Traveling during Tet can be hectic but so worthwhile. Enjoy new places with people you love!
7. Relax and Enjoy!
Whew, so much to do before Tet! Now the preparations are almost over.
In the last days before Tet, intentionally relax. Recharge your energy. Soon your hard work will pay off.
Some relaxing ideas:
- Take bubble baths.
- Get massages.
- Read books or magazines.
